Twin-Screw Sets as Used on Dominy and Holtzapffel Workbench Vises:
Many Windsor chair makers, and woodworker's alike prefer the twin-screw face vise used centuries ago in Dominy and Holtzapffel workbenches, and that have been made popular again by the recently published workbench plans of Christopher Schwarz, and previously Michael Dunbar's Dominy workbench plan.   Dominy-Holtzapffel twin-screw vises generally did not use garter or have a need for garter grooves - so that the vise face can angle ("Rack") for holding tapered workpieces.  Therefore, without a garter, you must retract the face chop ("jaw") by hand.  I recommend that you make your garters removable - but only  use 1 garter.  Just use two (2) classic vise or two (2) Shaker vise screws.
